About Us

GATEway is the Rochester Chapter of the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented, a statewide not-for-profit organization that advocates for educational services for gifted and talented students. 

GATEway supports academic challenge, rigor, and depth in the Rochester Public Schools and offers annual programs open to the public.


  • To advocate for appropriate curriculum, stimulating programs, and academic challenges for all students
  • To collaborate with the Rochester Public School administration, school board, teachers, and district personnel on issues of concern to parents of gifted students
  • To sponsor educational events which encourage all students to express their interests and talents in academics and the arts
  • To inform parents and the community about the unique learning needs of gifted students
  • To provide opportunities for families of gifted students to connect with each other
  • To lobby for appropriate local and state funding and support of gifted education

What GATEway IS:

An advocacy group for Gifted and Talented Education

IS NOT a school district department

Volunteer organization comprised of parents, educators, and community members

IS NOT a provider of extracurricular activities such as DestiNation ImagiNation, Math Master, Junior Great Books, etc.

Provider of periodic programs and educational offerings of interest to families of gifted children

IS NOT a testing, counseling, or placement service

Local chapter of Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented (MCGT), an  affiliate of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)

Is NOT a provider of curriculum as a part of the school day

 Non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
